About U.S. Cities
U-Surge Offers Localized Datasets for 50 U.S. Cities
U-Surge provides localized data for 50 cities along the U.S. Gulf and Atlantic Coasts. These datasets are the only comprehensive storm surge/storm tide datasets available. Storm surges are powerful hazards that often destroy tide gauges, so these datasets combine tide gauge data with high-water-mark surveys since 1880.
The location-based approach of U-Surge is important because storm surge is a localized hazard. Two cities just 20 miles apart may observe drastically different surge levels during a coastal flood event, making localized data essential.
Although data are complete for 50 cities, community webpages are still under construction. These pages provide surge data for the past 30 years, sample graphics, as well as localized pictures and videos.
